CONFIRMEDATM SAVED SEE NEWS OVER 1700 called on HSBC to talk to local people. See NEWS
Whitchurch, a historic town of 4500 and the main centre for a wealth of smaller villages and hamlets is to lose its last remaining Bank, with yet another community facility being ripped from its heart by Big Business. And yet HSBC officially call themselves...The world's local bank!
Just months after the Royal Mail closed the local Sorting Office, banking giants HSBC have announced that their Whitchurch Branch is to close in January 2010.
Many individuals, organisations and businesses rely on the local branch with its over-the-counter facilities as well as its ATM - the only 24-hour one for miles.
The Save Whitchurch Bank campaign has asked HSBC how the community can work with them to retain this essential service they provide.
This website is being set up as a resource to make local views known.
Whitchurch Town Council gave its endorsement to the Petition and the Website campaign at its Full Council meeting on November 2nd when campaigners and Councillors discussed a unified approach. The excellent cooperation between the Council, the residents and the local businesses shows the strength of feeling over HSBC's actions. The Town Councillors are to be commended for their support. Further meetings are being held.
A Public Meeting has been planned, while a local survey of users and a number of other initiatives involving local residents, organisations and businesses are underway. Look out for posters around the Town and keep an eye on this website and Forums.
Our MP the Rt Hon Sir George Young is supporting the campaign...see his website HERE
